Axel Merk: "The Dollar at Risk: Driving Forces and How to Diversify"

This presentation discusses the outlook for the economy and U.S. dollar from an international perspective.

Mr. Merk accurately predicted the 2007 surge in market volatility and will examine the pitfalls of current monetary policy and how it may affect corporate profitability, U.S. trade partners, and the markets as the U.S. economy slows. His presentation addresses important issues such as whether the Fed is in control of the economy and how different asset classes may perform as the dollar weakens. Mr. Merk states that in this environment there is no such thing as a safe asset class anymore and even cash may require a diversified approach.

Mr. Merk is president of Merk Investments and portfolio manager of the Merk Mutual Funds, which include the Merk Hard Currency Fund and Merk Asian Currency Fund. Mr. Merk has extensive experience and expertise in how the global financial imbalances, as evidenced by an enormous trade deficit, affect the markets. He has published many articles describing complex economic phenomena in understandable terms, and is a frequent presenter and moderator at conferences. He is a regular guest on CNBC and often quoted in financial publications such as Barron's, the Wall Street Journal, and Financial Times. Mr. Merk holds a BA in Economics and an MSc in Computer Science from Brown University.
